In 2003, MedImmune's HR and benefits professionals were looking for ways to more effectively leverage technology to increase efficiency. MedImmune decided to focus on two initial areas - benefit enrollment and common review.

Innovative technology solutions to automate formally manual processes.
Charlton Consulting Group designed and implemented a Web-based benefit enrollment system used to conduct open enrollment for existing employees as well as for new hires. The interface includes a detailed walk-through of the enrollment process and saves time compared to the former paper-based method. The system also provides management reporting, and uploads the data into the company's enterprise resource management system, SAP.
In addition to employee benefits enrollment, Charlton Consulting Group has helped MedImmune streamline its common review process by replacing a cumbersome multi-spreadsheet system of assigning ratings, determining merit increases and bonuses, and making stock-option grant recommendations with a more efficient Web-based tool.

Charlton's Web-based tools have led to increased efficiency across the enterprise. Benefit enrollment is far easier than it was in the past. Common review is easier as well; using Charlton's system, managers throughout the organization - whether they are in Maryland, California, Great Britain or the Netherlands - can make real-time changes and get through the common review process far more quickly than ever before.
